I think the reporting component of my company’s product would be way better if we had some OLAP cubes built that we could provide access to through common tools like Excel (or better yet, build our own interface, but that’s not my department). I simply have no time to research how to do this during the day. So I’m researching it on my own.
Normally I would not pursue this route, because I don’t believe in working for free. But I really want to know how to do this, and I think the end result will benefit ME, even if the company doesn’t care to pursue it.
Between free tutorials and documents like “A Brief Tutorial on Database Queries, Data Mining and OLAP,” by Lutz Hamel, Department of Computer Science and Statistics, University of Rhode Island, I hope to be able to learn a few things in the next couple of months and maybe present something DONE to the bosses in the spring.
