Just 30 minutes after my post on Tuesday, I started feeling kind of lousy. Then, I started having abdominal pain - BAD abdominal pain. I took a Vicodin (that I thought was just codeine, oh well) and slept for a few hours but woke again after midnight in worse pain than when I started. DH and I hemmed and hawed (I also groaned and cried) and we decided that the symptoms warranted a trip to the ER.
Four days later, I’m home. The abdominal pain was in my lymph nodes, stressed and upset from working overtime to generate the adequate white cells needed to fight…
wait for it…
the infection in my toe, which spread while I was in the ER to encompass most of my lower right leg.
I spent a day in the ICU because of high heart rate and low blood pressure. Then they moved me to a regular room. Wednesday night, at 1:00 a.m., the matriarch of the largest family on the North Shore moved in. She had a thousand visitors and left before I did. She had a CPAP machine that, when positioned just right, sounded like a crop duster buzzing a corn field.
I missed three days of work and will not be traveling to my company’s annual user conference, where I was to have conducted four training sessions and schmoozed and partied with co-workers and customers. I now have less than a full day of paid time off available for the rest of the year. I didn’t get a decent night’s sleep the entire time until last night, because yesterday morning, at DD, RN’s suggestion, I asked the MD for Ambien.
Yes, I’m bitter. I want my three days back.
Boy, you sure don’t do anything by halves, do you? Must have been scary though, so Welcome back.
OMG!
I thought, maybe NP has a fungal infection… I should tell her that’s what I had and that the cream is talking care of it just fine! You do tend to have more drama than I do!
Those kind of quickly spreading infections can be scary and very dangerous. I am so glad you made the good choice to go to the ER.
wow,! sorry you had such a scare. so glad you decided to make that trip to the er. i have worried about your feet - i was afraid you might have had a blood clot. then again, i thought it might be gout. whenh you said your toe was turning colors - thats when i worried.
that stinks - missing your meeting. you had probably done a ton of prep work for the presentation. does this mean no more springfield concerts for awhile ?
i know what you mean about losing time off to illness. our first 2 sickdays come off our vacation then paid sick time kicks in. we have a lot of folks coming to work sick because they dont want to lose the time for something so stupid as being sick. stupid rule!
here is wishing you health thru to the new year.
No, it does sound like you to things by halves - only one foot went bad.
Sorry, not the way anyone should have to spend time. Hope it all gets better.
