I’m just wrapping up my third husbandless, childless day. I’ve missed them both, but I’ve enjoyed the peace and quiet. That husband of mine is such a chatterbox.
I’m heading out to dinner with some friends.
My rental car had Sirius radio. Sirius has been broadcasting the station “E Street Radio” for several months, and I’ve enjoyed listening when I’ve had a rental car. For Memorial Day weekend, they played non-stop live music, concert by concert, from Friday morning through Monday night.
I went to Ohio for the week last week, while The Kid and DH went to Texas with my wonderful mother-in-law. They went to Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas to collect information for my DH’s in-progress update/publication of my late father-in-law’s dissertation. I could have gone to Texas, but I only have 5.75 days of paid time off remaining for the year. I want to hang on to at least four of them for the Christmas break.
Tis the season, I guess. Number One Son graduates from Big State University today, with a 3.692 GPA. No, I’m not a proud mom.
He gets to keep his student job through the summer, and he’s applied for an internship in the governor’s office in the fall. He’s taking the LSAT this fall, and he’ll start applying to law schools once he gets his results. There is a slight possibility he may be moving here if he ends up working in New Orleans next year. That would be really nice.
Graduation is at 3:00, with dinner at 7:30 with his roommate and family.
My son-in-law passed the Washington State Bar. The next day, he was offered a job. He starts in two weeks.
Woo hoo!
My church had its annual crawfish boil today. A standard was set during the first year or two we’ve had these boils, but it’s been a little off kilter the past two years. The year after the storm it was held at a campground, and the turnout wasn’t very good. The following year it was hard to work it in to the annual schedule, so it was on a Friday evening and there weren’t any desserts and the space was really crowded. This year there was a TON of food, and the park was spacious and the kid had a blast playing on the giant water slide. I ate all the crawfish I wanted. Yum….
I also showed a self-professed “crawfish virgin” how to eat them. He was surprised at how little food came out of a mudbug - just the tail meat. We told him you have to work really hard, but it’s worth it.
We got home a couple of hours ago and have been just sort of laying around in a semi-stupor ever since. No need to cook dinner tonight!
My guys are at the Gulf Islands National Seashore camping overnight. My little guy was so excited! It’s been raining here for over an hour, but The Kid just called from the cell phone and it hasn’t rained there at all.
I’m going to dye my hair and then shower and go to bed. I’m going to sleep as late as I like!
